Within the project, one of the goals was to unlock and develop educational resources for a number of topics (to be determined) for the nursing program and make them available under an open license. From the start of this project, it became clear that educators were willing to share. Possibly this was because they were trained as nurses where it is second nature to help another. In any case, the culture of helping each other and sharing one's own materials was not a major change.
An existing platform was selected that had already proved itself extensively in primary and secondary education: Wikiwijs.
The Wikiwijs staff developed a start page for Bachelor of nursing. This was largely customizable.
The basis of this project was a common, national training profile: Bachelor Nursing 2020 (BN2020). This profile makes sharing open educational resources between institutions potentially promising: the profile defines a common "language" for educational resources.
This common language includes core concepts, CanMeds roles, and themes. For the educational resources, the values for these fields are added as metadata. These fields are also available as search entries on the home page, making it easy for an educator to quickly find the corresponding educational resources.
Parallel to this project, SURF and Edustandaard worked on creating a digital vocabulary to make these terms available within Wikiwijs as selection lists. This digital vocabulary became available halfway through the project. As an interim solution, the decision was taken to add the terms as keywords to the metadata.
On Wikiwijs, the collaborating universities have now (mid-October 2020) shared over 1250 educational resources. These resources are a rich collection of different lessons or lesson components. These might include presentations, manuals, VR videos, quizzes, escaperooms, or worked-out lesson assignments.
